Sofrelog has been awarded the contract for Vessel Traffic and Management System supply for Kaohsiung Harbour (Taiwan)
The Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau has chosen Sofrelog for the design and installation of its new fully integrated VTMS project, using SYTAR technology. The contract was awarded early in 2000. This new system will provide security and management of vessel traffic throughout the port and approaches, monitor navigational aids, and link with database systems.
Five radars (two for long range operation, three for in port operation) provide the primary information source to the Sofrelog SYTAR Multiple Radar Tracker Processor. Target data is dispatched over a wide area network (WAN) in order to be made available to all users.
The operation room will be located at the top of the new VTC tower where three dual display workstations are integrated into consoles offering all facilities for VTS operation and database handling.
Additional sensors and equipment are supplied for navigational aids and target recognition including 10 VHF radio sets, 2 radio Direction Finders, a weather station, hydrographic sensors, and a CCTV monitoring system.
All traffic data (radar video, tracks and voice communications) are recorded by the VTS server and can be replayed synchronously for incident analysis and training purposes. Information concerning the ships are sent over the Port's local area network (LAN) to feed the Main Kaoshiung Harbour Bureau database in order to support various services and users (customs, Navy, etc.).
In order to follow the growth of the Port and thanks to the great modularity of SYTAR, extra radars, sensors and workstations can be added simply by connecting them to the WAN. In addition future incorporation of a Universal Automatic Identification System was also planned.
With this system, Kaohsiung Harbour continues its constant improvement policy and will become one of the most modern and safe ports of Asia.
